Civil War weapons, Relicman sales catalog

All weapons listed on this webpage are strictly manufactured before 1898, and are considered unsafe for actual use.  These are antique collectible weapons of the Civil War (most are pre 1865, unless I state otherwise) and actual firing of these weapons is not recommended for any purpose whatsoever!  Because these are all "pre 1898" weapons, no licenses are required for ownership, but common sense and good judgment are real good things to apply.

All  items listed are believed to be authentic to the Civil War or as otherwise described.

W1048     Single shot percussion carbine, Gallagher "Standard Model", .50 cal. (17005)

The Gallagher carbine was patented by a South Carolinian before the war, but produced under Federal contract.  It employed a unique loading system whereby the barrel slides forward during loading and utilized a percussion cartridge initially made of paper, later brass version had a hole in the bottom.  Manufactured by Richardson & Overman, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Standard features include an iron buttplate, iron patchbox, iron forstock with no bands, loading lever also serves as trigger guard, hinged sight, saddle bar and riding ring on the left side, six lands & grooves.  The "standard" model differs from the "early production" only by the placement of marks on the lock.  Marks on lock  "GALLAGHER /  PATENTED / JULY 17TH 1860", "MANUFACTD BY / RICHARDSON & OVERMAN / PHILADA", serial number, "17005".  Soldier carving "MS" punched into the butt.  Metal appearance is pleasing with grey patina, wood solid with dings and scratches from use, patchbox is intact, hinged sight intact, saddle bar intact, ring is missing, bore is clean, rifling definite, mechanics fully functional, nice representative example showing battle wear.  Barrel is 22.25 inches.
Ref: Flayderman 9B-052            $1,700.
