Weapons of the Civil War
All weapons listed on this webpage are strictly manufactured before 1898, and are considered unsafe for actual use. These are antique collectible weapons of the Civil War (most are pre 1865, unless I state otherwise) and actual firing of these weapons is not recommended for any purpose whatsoever! Because these are all "pre 1898" weapons, no licenses are required for ownership, but common sense and good judgment are real good things to have

Sharps Rifle, Model 1859, .52 cal.
The Sharps carbine was the most popular carbine of the Civil War, it was a
single shot percussion breechloader using paper cartridge and and revolutionized
hand weaponry. The 1859 model is distinguished by use of the patch box.
The longer rifle was intended for "Riflemen" or sharpshooters. This model
was configured for the new socket bayonet.
Mark on top of barrel: "NEW MODEL 1859"
Mark on sight: "RS LAWRENCE / PATENTED / FEB 15th, 1859"
Mark forward of sight: "SHARPS RIFLE / MANUFG CO / HARTFORD CONN"
Mark left side of receiver: "C SHARPS PAT / SEPT 12TH 1848"
Mark on lock near center: " C SHARPS PAT / OCT 5TH 1852"
Mark upper lock: "R S LAWRENCE PAT / APRIL 12TH 1859"
Serial number "39716" on rear breech.
Nice example, metal patina is pleasing, some original bluing, all marks
are crisp, bore rifling is crisp, sight intact, stock shows dings from use,
iron patch box, strap hooks intact, rifle was not equipped with a riding band,
everything works, higher grade example of a scarce weapon.
