Sharps and Hankins Model 1862 Carbine .52

Sharps partnered with Hankins for a short period during the Civil War,
only 8,000 produced from 1862 to 1865. This one was made for the Navy, it
employed a leather covering on the barrel to protect against rust when used on
shipboard.
Mark on right side "SHARPS / & / HANKINS / PHILADA"
Mark on left side "SHARPS / PATENT / 1859"
Serial number "5453" on rear tang.
Single shot breechloader, rimfire, brass buttplate, swivel sight, iron
barrel originally covered with leather with iron fastener at end, no bands,
strap
hook underneath butt.
Metal appearance pleasing with light rust, long range sight intact,
leather covering intact, bore is clean, rifling definite, wood solid with dings
and scratches from use, strap hook intact, mechanics fully functional,
outstanding example of a scarce weapon.
