Weapons of the Civil War
All weapons listed on this webpage are strictly manufactured before 1898, and are considered unsafe for actual use. These are antique collectible weapons of the Civil War (most are pre 1865, unless I state otherwise) and actual firing of these weapons is not recommended for any purpose whatsoever! Because these are all "pre 1898" weapons, no licenses are required for ownership, but common sense and good judgment are real good things to have.
W0813 Model 1832
Artillery short sword, Ames 1835, with scabbard belt and buckle
The "foot artillery sword" resembles a Roman gladiator
sword. It theoretically was intended as a last line of defense, but more
practical use was the wacking of weeds and brush to prepare an artillery
placement. Mark on the ricasso: eagle / "N P AMES / SPRINGFIELD" and
UNITED / STATES / 1835 Additional inspector marks on the handle "ORD"
"JM" "HKC" Scabbard is leather with brass mountings,
scabbard hangs from a frog, belt is white buff, fastened with a pattern 1832 two
piece artillery buckle. The buckle depicts eagle on one side, and crossed
cannons on the other, it is cast, the prong for the "S" hook is
drilled.
Fantastic piece, sword, scabbard, belt and buckle, top grade, it is rare to get
an original rig like this.
