Weapons of the Civil War
All weapons listed on this webpage are strictly manufactured before 1898, and are considered unsafe for actual use. These are antique collectible weapons of the Civil War (most are pre 1865, unless I state otherwise) and actual firing of these weapons is not recommended for any purpose whatsoever! Because these are all "pre 1898" weapons, no licenses are required for ownership, but common sense and good judgment are real good things to have.
W0798 Model 1841 US
Percussion Musket, Robbins & Lawrence 1849, .54 cal.
The Model 1841 was the first rifled musket, it is a relatively heavy
and short piece. It is often referred to as the "Mississippi" rifle,
because of its use by Mississippi troops under command of Jefferson Davis during
the Mexican War. Lock is marked "WINDSOR VT / 1849" behind the hammer,
"'ROBBINS / & / LAWRENCE / US" in front. Barrel is marked
"VP" over eagle head, "1848". Brass buttplate is marked
"US". Inspector cartouche in wood opposite the lock, additional
inspector marks: " Single shot .54 cal rifled muzzleloader, brass
buttplate, patchbox with brass flap, fixed position sight, two brass barrel
bands, brass trigger guard, two strap hooks, ramrod with brass tulip head and
threads. In the 1850's it was adapted for a saber bayonet, the nose was fitted
with a lug, the forestock and the nose band were both shortened.
Metal appearance pleasing with light rust, sight intact, ramrod intact with
threads, bands intact, both strap hooks intact, barrel may be a replacement but
is original and the correct type, bore is clean, rifling definite, wood solid
with dings and scratches from use, mechanics fully functional, excellent
example.
Barrel length 33 inches.
