Weapons of the Civil War

All weapons listed on this webpage are strictly manufactured before 1898, and are considered unsafe for actual use.  These are antique collectible weapons of the Civil War (most are pre 1865, unless I state otherwise) and actual firing of these weapons is not recommended for any purpose whatsoever!  Because these are all "pre 1898" weapons, no licenses are required for ownership, but common sense and good judgment are real good things to have.

The model 1860 saber was made slightly lighter than the model 1840 and was the primary saber of the Federal cavalry by the end of the
war. Ricasso is marked "AMES MANUFACTURING CO / CHICOPEE / MASS" (arched style, mark is often weak).  The opposite ricasso was not
marked.  The stamping that appears, "ADK / 1862" was added later by some goofball trying to enhance the piece, and it could be legitimately removed, and
should be removed.  This probably means it failed inspection or was a manufacturer's sample, because all the other parts bear good inspector marks.   Additional inspector stamp, "ADK" on pommel and scabbard drag.
Iron scabbard with iron mountings.
The grip has leather wrap and wire intact, leather washer intact. Clean  blade, scabbard intact with light rust, inexpensive example.
Blade length 35 inches
Ref:  Thillman Swords pg. 79 $850.00
