Weapons of the Civil War
All weapons listed on this webpage are strictly manufactured before 1898, and are considered unsafe for actual use. These are antique collectible weapons of the Civil War (most are pre 1865, unless I state otherwise) and actual firing of these weapons is not recommended for any purpose whatsoever! Because these are all "pre 1898" weapons, no licenses are required for ownership, but common sense and good judgment are real good things to have.
W0773 Spencer repeating rifle, Model 1860, .52 cal
This weapon revolutionized
the carbines, it was the first repeating carbine to be significantly employed in
the Civil War. It could load seven all weather or metallic rim fire cartridges,
which was a major advantage over the single shot paper cartridge weapons
previously employed. The longer rifle was intended for "Riflemen" or
sharpshooters. Mark on top of frame: "SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO. BOSTON
MASS. / PAT'D MARCH 6, 1860" Serial number "9749", this is early
number. Cartouche is present on the wood opposite the lock. Seven shot
breechloader rimfire, iron buttplate, three iron barrel bands, no saddle bar on
these rifles, strap hook on bottom of butt and second band, spring loaded tube
feeds through the buttplate, Spencer long range sight.
Metal appearance pleasing
with light rust, long range sight intact, spring loaded tube intact, bore is
clean, rifling definite, wood solid with dings and scratches from use, sling
hooks intact, mechanics fully functional, outstanding example.
Barrel is 30
inches.
