Weapons of the Civil War

All weapons listed on this webpage are strictly manufactured before 1898, and are considered unsafe for actual use.  These are antique collectible weapons of the Civil War (most are pre 1865, unless I state otherwise) and actual firing of these weapons is not recommended for any purpose whatsoever!  Because these are all "pre 1898" weapons, no licenses are required for ownership, but common sense and good judgment are real good things to have.

This weapon was sub contracted well into the war under a special 1861 contract, but incorporated many of the changes that were eventually adopted in the 1863 regulation, namely the contoured hammer, flat bolster and removal of band springs. Manufactured under sub contract by Lamson Goodnow & Yale Co., Windsor Vermont.
Lock is marked "1864" behind the hammer, bolster is plain, "US / L G & Y / WINDSOR VT" in front.
Barrel is marked "VP" over eagle head, "1863",
Buttplate is marked "US".
Three bands each marked "U".
No inspector cartouches are found, the clear "lattice" style stamp is found on six places on this example and has been found on other examples, it may be indication of factory rejection.
Single shot .58 cal rifled muzzleloader, iron buttplate, contoured hammer, plain bolster, three leaf sight, iron trigger guard, three barrel bands no springs, two strap hooks, tulip head ramrod with straight shank and threads.
Metal appearance pleasing with light rust, sight intact, ramrod intact with threads, bands intact, one strap hook missing, bore is clean, rifling definite, wood solid with dings and scratches from use, mechanics fully functional, excellent example of a scarce model.
Barrel length 40 inches.
