Fakes, reproductions, replicas, Federal plate 507
US oval buckles & boxplates

Original is a very common pattern, and is die stamped lead filled, buckles and boxplates.  There seem to be good many copies floating around of this plate, mostly with the re-enactors.   I do not know if somebody has gotten the original die or if this relatively simple pattern  has been successfully copied.

"This item is an American civil war union belt buckle. It has some use marks which is to be expected but is in good condition considering its age. It is approx three and three eigths inches by two and one eigth inches in size. It is brass with a lead filled back and has brass arrow head shaped fittings on the rear . I am no expert in items from this period of American history. I collect later WW2 items but as far as I can tell this item looks original . It and several other American civil war items were in a collection that I purchased from a collector recently. Please see photographs.

"An 85 year old cop whose a friend of mine asked me to sell this for him. He says he got it in 1950 from an old local woman who said it was in her family since the Civil War. I've never had one of these before. The back looks great and I'm told it has been kept in dresser drawers for years and never handled much. I took a close up of the back and it looks exactly like the back of a SNY plate that recently sold on ebay. Item # 6628159114. Have a look. Also, I measured the wire loops on the back and they are .062 or 62 one thousandths of an inch thick. I'm selling this as an original period plate. Email any questions or info. Thanks.

--- On May-25-06 at 07:44:42 PDT, seller added the following information: I just put a magnet on the wire loops and it DID NOT stick. I was asked that question in an email.
