Fakes, reproductions, replicas, Confederate plates 276 & 277 Louisiana two piece buckle, concentric ring wreath

The originals were probably made by New Orleans jewelers, are well made buckles with applied motif.  The concentric ring style of wreath was also used on some CS patterns.

"For auction is a portion of a two-piece Civil War Louisiana Belt Buckle. This portion is approx. 2.5" long and 2.25" wide and depicts a pelican. The back appears to be marked "1862". I am not sure if that is a date or not. Nice patina. Good condition. $5 Priority Shipping."

Editor note:  This seller sells on ebay auction under "Private Auction".  It is highly doubtful this piece can be shown to be authentic.  The date stamped on the back is thought to have been a sutler stamp to prevent this being mistaken for a real piece.  However somebody may have stamped this to make it more "vintage".
