Fakes, reproductions, replicas, Confederate plates 125 to 132
"CS" cast rectangle clip corner buckle
Original is solid cast with rounded corners. Many examples were milled around the hooks, referred to as "spun hooks" apparently as a means of cleaning debris from around the base of the hooks before bending. The original is crude, and has become a natural target for fakers. Because the original is so crude this is one of the more difficult of Confederate buckles to analyze.

Supposedly the line in the hooks variety
Measures 45.5mm x 70.7mm
Editor Note: this plate was brought to me for inspection. I am told
this was bought from an ebay seller. I told the owner that I do not
believe that this plate can be shown to be authentic. Details on this
plate do seem to match the details of the Hanover Brass plate shown on
civilwarfakes.com along with the following comment:
"Photo # CSGP21 Plate 131 (Lined Hook) CS Belt Plate.
45 x 71mm. Marked GW. This plate is found in Tennessee, Georgia and Mississippi.
Called the lined hook because the vent rod left a line in the hooks when they
pushed it through the sand mold. This was done to let the brass gases out when
the hot metal was poured in the sand mold. It helped the hooks to be solid and
not hollow. Pick out a flaw because this belt plate is close to the
original."

Editor note: This seller sells on ebay auction under "Private Auction" and is frequently the subject of conversation on the NVRHA forum on fakes. It is highly doubtful this piece can be shown to be authentic.
