"This is a reproduction Script CS 2- Piece belt plate. This style was said to have been used by Confederate Engineers and Confederate Surgeons. But I believe that Officer's would have also chosen this for their wear. This reproduction is cast in red brass and is a beautiful example of a very rare buckle."

"Photo # CS2P14 Plate 002 Script CS Two Piece Belt Plate  49 x 84/wreath ht.49mm. GW stamped in the back. You see this buckle in both yellow and red metal. Other people casting buckles use this wreath to cast their CS Plate 001 type . They use most of my patterns to make their casting. Some do not take my GW off the back. I have made many many of these. Check out flaws for you to know the difference in an original or reproduction. The bottom of the wreath has two good flaws to go by."

Tongue keeper 46.7mm
Wreath keeper 47.1mm
Wreath 49.3mm
Old English style lettering solid brass casting. This example is second generation casting. Note keeper bars are beveled, tongue is stepped up.
Beautiful green patina, plate recovered in 1970's

Editor note:  This plate was bought in 1986, from a very reputable dealer.  The casting is sharp, the plate does measure small, the flaws on the back of the tongue appear to match F1014, and the wreath does not seem to match at all.  So is this a repro?
