Button depicts Virginia state seal, Virtus slaying the tyrant , intended for
Virginia troops. This version of the state seal with the sword and spear
both pointed upward was prevalent in designs 1830's to 1850's. Backmark: "CANFIELD & BROTHER /
(star) BALTIMORE (star)", rmdc on a
stippled field, Scovill manufactured 1850's (Canfield15).
Two part low convex button, coat size, silvered. Nondug
button, silvered, stand up shank intact.
