Bullets of the Civil War
Gardner bullets,  inserted base
M&M 168 through M&M 177

Most bullets listed have been excavated from Civil War sites.  Illustrations are representative of the bullets offered, multiple quantities are offered for most patterns.  Bullets are very old and have generally been excavated, there may be minor dings and scratches. I will attempt to describe major flaws.

Please order by "M&M" number, McKee & Mason, "Civil War Projectiles II, Small Arms & Field Artillery with supplement".  I have also cross reference "T&T" numbers, which is Thomas & Thomas, "Handbook of Civil War Bullets & Cartridges".

All items listed are believed to be authentic to the Civil War or as otherwise described.

Gardner Bullet

Left:    Gardner, .69 cal CSA
Two part bullet, pressed base lip gives the impression of inserted shallow cavity, two grooves.
M&M 168 variant, T&T 192A    $125.00     Sorry, temporarily not available

Middle:     Gardner, .54 cal CSA
Two part bullet, pressed base lip gives the impression of inserted cavity, 2 grooves.
This bullet is as Confederate as you can get.  They were only made in the south during the war.  And they were made for captured supplies of the model 1841 muskets which were .54 caliber, and were available in southern arsenals captured at the beginning of hostilities.  Imagine fighting these great battles in 1861 with a 20 year old musket!
M&M 169, T&T 131 $5.00

Right:     Gardner, .58 cal CSA
Two part bullet, pressed base lip gives the impression of inserted cavity, 2 grooves.
M&M 170, T&T 162C $5.00

Gardner, . "blow out"
Two part bullet, pressed base lip gives the impression of inserted cavity, 2 grooves.
Blow out is caused by weak metal charge blew through the bullet.
M&M 170 variant, $10.00  Sorry, temporarily not available

Gardner, just look at these crude bullets:
P002219.jpg (417603 bytes)
Left:    Gardner .54 cal CSA, uncut nose sprue
Two part bullet, pressed base lip gives the impression of inserted cavity, 2 grooves.  Actually all Gardners are nose cast and the sprue was cut off at the factory.  The nose sprue was not cut on this example.
M&M 175, T&T 131 $8.00

Not Pictured:    Gardner .58 cal CSA, uncut nose sprue
Two part bullet, pressed base lip gives the impression of inserted cavity, 2 grooves.  Actually all Gardners are nose cast and the sprue was cut off at the factory.  The nose sprue was not cut on this example.

Gardner myth debunk:  Not all Gardners are two ring:
P002220.jpg (410592 bytes)

Left:    Gardner .58 cal CSA, "three ring"
Two part bullet, pressed base lip gives the impression of inserted cavity, actually appears to be flaw in cutting the mold for the regular two ring Gardner giving the appearance of a third ring.
M&M 173 variant, T&T 162B    $20.00         Sorry, temporarily not available

Right:    Gardner .58 cal CSA , "one ring"
Two part bullet, pressed base lip gives the impression of inserted cavity, actually appears to be flaw in cutting the mold for the regular two ring Gardner giving the appearance of a single ring.  There is a second ring, it was not cut through properly.
M&M 176, T&T 162A    $40.00     Sorry, temporarily not available

Gardner, "THE"  bullet of the Confederacy
P001972.jpg (473549 bytes)

Strictly Confederate these were only made in the South and only during the war. Unlike many other bullets they were not used before or after the war,  nor by northern units, there is no bullet more "Confederate" than this bullet.
58 caliber, made for the new musket      each      $5.00
54 caliber, for the old model 1841 musket    each $5.00

Bulk purchase: Confederate Gardner mixture .54 and .58 cal,  minimum quantity 25, @ $3.75
Bag of 25 for  $93.75    (shipping $9.00, US Postal fixed rate box,  total $102.75)   Sorry, temporarily not available
