Bullets of the Civil War
Flat base, raised ring
M&M 38 through M&M 62
Most bullets listed have been excavated from Civil War sites. Illustrations are representative of the bullets offered, multiple quantities are offered for most patterns. Bullets are very old and have generally been excavated, there may be minor dings and scratches. I will attempt to describe major flaws.
Please order by "M&M" number, McKee & Mason, "Civil War Projectiles II, Small Arms & Field Artillery with supplement". I have also cross reference "T&T" numbers, which is Thomas & Thomas, "Handbook of Civil War Bullets & Cartridges".
All items listed are believed to be authentic to the Civil War or as otherwise described.

Right:
Smith carbine, .50 cal
for paper cartridge
Flat base, 1 groove. (The rubber case and paper cartridges are very different
but the bullets are much closer in comparison and are frequently
misidentified. The ring on the rubber cartridge bullet is more distinct
and was intended to provide a lip to hold the rubber. The ring on the
bullet for the paper cartridge is actually a raised ring also, just less
distinct.

Please note: The rubber case and paper cartridges are very different but the bullets are much closer in comparison and are frequently misidentified. The ring on the rubber cartridge bullet (M&M 49) is more distinct and was intended to provide a lip to hold the rubber. The ring on the bullet for the paper cartridge (M&M 70) is actually a raised ring also, just less distinct. The two bullets measure almost the same diameter and length.
