B5446     North Carolina state seal, officer staff button (22.5mm)  
 
North Carolina state seal, ladies Liberty and Plenty, intended for officers of North Carolina militia units, manufactured pre-war by Scovill for Mitchell Tyler who supplied uniforms.  
Backmark: "MITCHEL (sic) & TYLER / RICHMOND VA. "  dm between rings of dots, inner solid ring, Scovill manufactured ca 1860. (Mitchell04)
Three part officer style button, coat size.  
Stand up shank intact, gilded nondug button

B4773     North Carolina state seal button (22mm) 

Backmark: Blank local back depressed channel with star, made by W Wildt, Columbia SC. Shank is drilled sheet metal, a change in manufacturing implemented late in the war. Button was made from very poor quality sheet, lamination on the surface is a quality issue from crude manufacturing, this is not later damage. This is a fantastic example of the problems the Confederacy had trying to manufacture "local" goods after supplies from the north were cut off.

North Carolina state seal, ladies Liberty and Plenty, Confederate wartime manufacture.  
Backmark:  "W. WILDT & SON / * RICHMOND VA. * " rmdc. Backmark is usually illegible, back crimping irregular (Wildt03)  
Two part convex coat size button, crude southern "local" manufacture, copper wire shank, back is very crudely crimped.  
Stand up shank intact, clean patina, rare to get this backmark
