P0677
Alabama "Map on
tree" oval waist belt plate
Stamped brass, lead filled, depicts map of Alabama on a
tree, the
state seal. This is one of the rarest of the Confederate state plates.
Almost all of the recovered examples show hard use as lead filling
was thin and poor quality. Buckle was made in the south during
the war, although the stamping quality is very sharp.
Although there are cracks in the rim, this one is much better than most.
Round stud hooks in tact are peened, not cast.
Recovered: by Ray Flora, 1975 at Camp Nelson Kentucky, near
Lexington. This site was thought to have served as a Federal
