This is a sampling of relics collected by Harry Ridgeway over the years.  This archive record is for educational purposes only.  Some of the relics listed may be on display at the Old Court House Civil War Museum, Winchester Virginia, some are no longer owned by the author.  None of the items listed in this section are for sale, please refer to the separate sales catalog for items that are currently offered.

All  items listed are believed to be authentic to the Civil War or as otherwise described.   Any excavated relics have been recovered from private property with owners permission.    This information is available for research purposes, pictures may be used by permission only.


B4513     Vermont Militia button  (21.7mm)

Backmark: "R & W. ROBINSON / (dot) ATTLEBOROUGH (dot) / EXTRA / (dot) * (dot) * (dot) * (dot) RICH (dot) * (dot) * (dot) * (dot) " rm with four raised rings, flat one piece button, ca 1830's (RobinsonRW13) 
One piece flat button depicts Vermont militia soldier from an earlier era. 
Stand up shank intact, beautiful silvered nondug button.

B5026     Vermont Militia Artillery button (21.8mm)

Backmark: "INDEPENDENT CADETS" rm on a ribbon with laurel branches between ends, inner solid ring, flat one piece button, ca 1830's Overstruck over an earlier R&W Robinson mark. (Independent01)
One piece flat button depicts a cannon with eagle.
Stand up shank intact, beautiful gilded nondug button.

Depicts the state seal of Vermont, intended for Vermont militia units. 
Backmark: "SCOVILL MF'G CO. / * WATERBURY. * " rmdc on stippled background, ca 1850's. (ScovillM13) 
Two part coat button. 
Stand up shank intact, top grade gilded nondug button.

Depicts the state seal of Vermont, intended for Vermont militia units. Evidently Vermont did not send inspectors, Scovill used this back left over from buttons produced for a Cuban firm! 
Backmark: "PALANZUELOS / (dot) MENENDEZ. Y. CA (dot) " rmdc on stippled background, Scovill produced ca 1850's (Palanzuelos01) 
Two part coat button.

Vermont state seal, two part button, back is silvered.

This school was the first northern cadet school to be formed after West Point. It was located in Norwich, Connecticut until 1866, when it was moved to Northfield Vermont. One piece convex "cadet" size button.
Backmark: "ROBINSONS / (dot) * (dot) EXTRA (dot) * (dot) " rm, between one upper raised ring and two lower, concave back on one piece button, ca 1830's 1840's (RobinsonRW25Am)

B4086     Norwich University button (14mm)

Backmark: blank back, concentric raised rings, concave back on one piece button, Robinson manufactured 1830's (BlankNorth03As)
