This is a sampling of relics collected by Harry Ridgeway over the years. This archive record is for educational purposes only. Some of the relics listed may be on display at the Old Court House Civil War Museum, Winchester Virginia, some are no longer owned by the author. Connecticut National Guard "CNG" staff button

dots, ca 1860's. (ScovillM23)
Near the end of the war, Connecticut began the process of reorganizing the
disparate militia units into what eventually became the National Guard. This
three part officer button, with narrow rim, is believed to date to 1865.
Stand up shank intact, gilded nondug button.

Collegiate & Commercial Institute button (21.7mm)
This small college was established in 1836 in New Haven Connecticut.
It presumably had a commercial focus, although this low convex two piece uniform
button was issued in the late 1850's.

between two rings of dots, ca 1855 - 1860. (ScovillM28)

Backmark: "Scovill Mf'g Co / Waterbury" dm between rings
This small college was established in 1836, presumably with a commercial focus.
No doubt some of the students used their school uniforms in the great conflict,
even though this was not a military school per se.

Norwich University button (18.3mm)
This school was the first northern cadet school to be formed
after West Point. It was located in Norwich, Connecticut until 1866, when it was
moved to Northfield Vermont. One piece convex "cadet" size button.
Backmark: "ROBINSONS / (dot) * (dot) EXTRA (dot) * (dot) " rm, between
one upper raised ring and two lower, concave back on one piece button, ca 1830's
