This is a sampling of relics collected by Harry Ridgeway over the years. This archive record is for educational purposes only. Some of the relics listed may be on display at the Old Court House Civil War Museum, Winchester Virginia, some are no longer owned by the author. Republic of Texas
Navy button (21.2mm)
As an independent country, the Republic of Texas formed a navy to defend
Galveston Bay against the Mexicans. Button depicts "REPUBLIC OF TEXAS"
along with the lone star and naval symbol of an anchor.
Backmark: "J. M. L. & W. H. SCOVILL / (dot) WATERBURY (dot) / EXTRA
SUPERFINE (dot) * (dot) * (dot) * (dot)" dm between solid ring, no outer
ring, flat back, Scovill manufacture 1830's (Scovill01)
Two piece low convex coat size button.

Depicts five pointed star with letter "C", presumed intended for a
Texas Cavalry unit, offered by Schuyler as a general stock item.
Backmark: "SCHUYLER H & G / N YORK." dm inner ring of dots partly obscured by
shank well. Scovill produced ca 1860, for small buttons only. (Schuyler24As)

Depicts five point star on crude lined field, with a false rim, wartime
manufacture presumed intended for officers of a Texas militia unit.
Backmark: blank back, slight concave channel, likely the product of one of the
New Orleans producers (BlankLocal31)
