This is a sampling of relics collected by Harry Ridgeway over the years. This archive record is for educational purposes only. Some of the relics listed may be on display at the Old Court House Civil War Museum, Winchester Virginia, some are no longer owned by the author. None of the items listed in this section are for sale, please refer to the separate sales catalog for items that are currently offered.
All items listed are believed to be authentic to the Civil War or as otherwise described. Any excavated relics have been recovered from private property with owners permission. This information is available for research purposes, pictures may be used by permission only.

Florida state seal button (20mm)
Backmark: "Scovill MG Co / Superfine" , rmdc one of the scarcer
backmarks.
Shank intact, beautiful gilded nondug button, shows some wear from
honest use.

Depicts Florida territorial seal, eagle with 13 stars above tropical flowers
Backmark: "SCOVILL MFG CO / (dot) WATERBURY (dot)" rmdc ca 1850's,

Stand up shank intact, gilded nondug button.

Florida state seal officer button, "Cherokee rose"

The governor of Florida was directed to find a seal for the state of Florida,
this six pointed star, with "Florida", is referred to by collectors as
the "Cherokee rose" but that is not a contemporary description. Button
is quite rare, produced by Scovill around 1860, E Halfmann of Montgomery was the
contractor. Militia in Florida was oriented around the panhandle region before
the Civil War which was an extension of the Gulf Coast economic power of Mobile
and New Orleans.
Backmark: "E. HALFMANN / * MONTGOMERY ALA.* " dm between rings of
dots. Scovill produced ca 1860. (HalfmannE01)
