A1564
Delafield shell, Parrott time fuse, Delafield rifle, 3.67 in.
Shell has iron cupped base that is integral with the shell, supplemented by five
flanges cast into the body. This early design was submitted to the State of New
York in 1862, but never used on the battlefields. Apparently Delafield also
submitted a gun of his design, but the size and five flanges suggests this could
have been used in a 20 pounder Parrott. Intended to use a Parrott zinc time
fuse.
Parrott time fuse intact, non-fired example, metal solid light pitting.
Recovered: surplus stocks Diameter 3.6inch, length 9.25 inch
Ref: Melton & Pawl pg. 277 & 245
